Visioning the Coral Sea Marine Park

History of Mapping the Coral Sea ~ Science@Sea Seminar

May. 30 2020

“What you are doing now is the first real multi beam data gathering. It is extremely pioneering. Where Falkor is headed for the next few weeks, no one has been with multibeam before. We have no idea what is there.”

Robin Beaman, Principal Investigator of the #VisioningCoralSea expedition, gave a Seminar@Sea for the crew aboard Research Vessel Falkor about the mapping efforts that have taken place in the Coral Sea Marine Sea Park. The talk ranges from leadline soundings to airborne LiDAR – you can listen and learn about the history and geography of the nearly 1 million square kilometer Coral Sea Marine Park, the largest marine reserve in Australia.
