Schmidt Ocean Institute had a strong presence at the Ocean Sciences Meeting 2020 in a variety of ways. Here is a quick look at some of the numbers:
- Four spoken presentations about Falkor science (Block, Watling, Babbin, Cordes)
- Seven posters related to Falkor work (Michel, Baumberger, Babbin x3, Sousa, Wurl)
- Three spoken presentations by Artists-At-Sea
- 15 Artists-At-Sea present at the exhibit opening
- The exhibit itself held 31 pieces from artists who had journeyed on Research Vessel Falkor
- One scientist shared their work for a two hour period at the Data Help Desk (Saito and the protein portal)
- More than 125 alumni and friends attended the SOI-hosted reception
- Staff members Dr. Jyotika Virmani and Dr. Carlie Wiener were featured on student career panels
- Several Falkor Principal Investigators including Mandy Joye, Erik Cordes, Peter Girguis, and Amanda Demopoulos hosted a panel on Developing Transdisciplinary Deep Ocean Work
- Staff member Dr. Weiner presented Recommendations that resulted from the 2019 NOAA Ocean Exploration Forum
- Staff member Allison Miller hosted a mini-panel on Ocean Plastics (focused on ocean solutions)
