Necker Ridge: Bridge or Barrier?

Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument – Video

Sep. 16 2019

During part of this expedition, we will be within the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. It is the largest contiguous fully protected conservation area under the U.S. flag, and one of the largest marine conservation areas in the world. It encompasses 582,578 square miles of the Pacific Ocean (1,508,870 square kilometers) – an area larger than all the United States’ national parks combined. “Without understanding what you are managing, how are you going to put limited resources towards these environments and species? Without information, we can’t manage.”
