Week 01 Update – Deep Coral Diversity at Emperor Seamounts

Aug. 05 2019

In the Northern Pacific, the deep corals along the Aleutian Ridge are completely different from the corals along the Hawaiian Ridge, and the researchers on Research Vessel Falkor want to know why. “There are no other seamounts in the North Pacific that join those two areas together, only the Emperor Seamounts, so this is the one chance that we have to find out where the boundary between these two different biogeographic regions actually is.” Learn why this expedition, which pushes the limits of Falkor’s endurance, is exciting and important in this week’s video update.
