On the #PingingInNewYear expedition, Artist-at-Sea Jessica Leitmanis is looking at 3D underwater landscapes to inspire depth, texture, and three-dimensionality that comes through naturally in her weaving.
Her work looks at the issue of man-made, inorganic material in the ocean. She says of the knowledge gained on the ship: “It is really fascinating to learn from the scientists; to hear from them how these sort of landforms might have occurred over time and how they might have evolved over time… It really can teach us a lot about the past and what may happen in the future, and I love trying to distill all that in my work.”
