Leslie J. Novoa is a Marine Biologist and Bachelor of Marine Sciences graduate from the University of Magallanes, a student of Master in Science with a mention in Management and Conservation of Subantarctic NRNR of the University of Magallanes (UMAG, 2023) and SSI Open Water Diver.

Her research focuses on the study of the biodiversity of benthic communities in the area of taxonomy and databases associated with communities and assemblages of zoobenthos. She has participated in three Antarctic expeditions, assisting in preserving samples for taxonomy and DNA of marine sponges, and in subarctic zones in the scientific campaign collecting samples of benthic organisms with a modified AGASSIZ trawl and worked on their subsequent preservation and identification. In addition, she is currently working in international collaboration with UVIGO, Spain, on zoobenthos associated with Zostera and Gracilaria meadows.

She loves scientific divulgation and fieldwork and tries to unite both branches through illustration and the formation of ludic instances such as board games. In 2020, she released “Heroinas Oceanicas,” a boardgame about the work of the Latino-American woman in marine science.
