Jeremy Horowitz is a PhD Candidate at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University. His research is focused on the taxonomy, systematics, and evolutionary history of black corals. He has joined multiple deep-sea expeditions to collect and document biodiversity in these little-explored habitats, which has already led to numerous range expansions for the regions and new species to science. During this upcoming trip, Jeremy will extract and sequence DNA from black corals, to continue building what will become the largest and most informative phylogenetic tree of the group, to date.
