Jasmin is a PhD Student at University of California Davis studying Water Resources Engineering. Jasmin completed her Ocean Engineering (Honours) degree at the Australian Maritime College (an institute of the University of Tasmania) where she investigated scour – a special kind of erosion – beneath subsea pipelines using Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). Jasmin works with the Environmental Robotics Laboratory and Environmental Dynamics Laboratory at UC Davis to investigate movement of large water masses in lakes and oceans.
Robotic and Autonomous Technology can be used to collect information in extreme environments and in ways that people cannot. Consequently, this technology is uniquely suited to investigations underwater. Currently, Jasmin is working with UC Davis’s Underwater Glider (a special kind of AUV) to better understand mixing processes in Lake Tahoe. Jasmin is excited to apply an AUV to a new problem aboard the RV Falkor. Follow Jasmin and her adventures discovering the unknown on Twitter: @jas_mcinerney
