Cristián Rodrigo is an oceanographer who graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. He holds a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences with a specialization in Applied Geophysics, both earned at the Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenada (CICESE), Mexico. Recently, he obtained a Master’s degree in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the Universidad Internacional de Valencia, Spain. With over 30 years of experience in oceanographic, geophysical, and underwater exploration work, he has served as chief scientist on numerous marine research cruises organized by the Chilean Navy and the National Oceanographic Committee. Additionally, he has led maritime Antarctic Scientific Expeditions for the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH). He was a member of the Technical and Legal Committee of the United Nations International Seabed Authority and has served as an advisor to the Technical Committee on the Continental Shelf of Chile’s Directorate of Borders and State Limits. Currently, Dr. Rodrigo is a full professor and researcher in the Faculty of Engineering at Universidad Andrés Bello, specifically in the School of Geology at the Viña del Mar campus.
