Chris Roman is an Associate Professor of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography. He has been working with marine robotics and participating in oceanographic research for the past 15 years. He runs a laboratory that develops new platforms and methods to map the sea floor and make measurements in the ocean. Chris has worked with geologists, biologists and archaeologists on research projects around the world. He teaches several classes at URI linking technology and oceanographic science.

Chris has BS and MS degrees in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech and the University of California San Diego. He obtained a PhD in ocean engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in 2006.
