Sofia P. Ramalho is a Junior Researcher at the Department of Biology and Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) at the University of Aveiro (Portugal). Her research is focused on the study of the benthic diversity and ecosystem functioning in various deep-sea habitats (including cold seeps, submarine canyons and abyssal plains). She is also highly involved in impact assessment studies conducted in areas targeted for bottom-contact fisheries and deep-sea mining exploitation.

During this expedition, she aims to integrate ROV imagery annotation information with bathymetric and CTD data to map and explore mega-epifaunal community and biodiversity patterns in the canyon areas and adjacent slopes in the Chilean Margin.
