Sion Moraga is an student of Geology in her final year of study at the University of Chile, where she is working on her thesis project. Her research focuses on the sedimentological characterization of glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) deposits in the Huemules Norte River valley, Northern Patagonian Icefield, Chile. This involves describing sediment cores recovered from this glaciofluvial system. Additionally, she has experience in Hydrogeology, working in private consulting on environmental assessments and characterization of potential aquifer systems.

She obtained her B.Sc. with a specialization in Sciences from the University of Chile and is close to completing her B.Sc. in Geology at the same university. Her recent research projects include studies on glacier advance and retreat using remote sensing, as well as flood hazards. The SOI expedition provides her the opportunity to initiate a postgraduate project for the near future, and she looks forward to collaborating with the scientific team.
