Ricardo is a professional fisherman with a degree from the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral and a degree in Port Administration and Development from the Universidad del Pacifico. He has been working at the Galápagos National Park Directorate since 2003 and has served as Chief of Control and Surveillance for the Galápagos Marine Reserve (GMR) and as a counterpart in the implementation of the agreed-upon zoning in 2005. He also contributed to the execution of the Radial and Satellite Monitoring System for vessels operating in the marine protected area. Visaira has contributed to and led various research projects aimed at conserving the ecological integrity of the GMR.
