Práxedes Muñoz is a Full Professor at the Department of Marine Biology at the Faculty of Marine Sciences, Universidad Católica del Norte (FCM-UCN), Chile, and Director of the Ph.D. Program in Biology and Applied Ecology (dr-BEA). She received her Degree in Marine Biology and later her PhD in Oceanography at Universidad de Concepción, Chile. She teaches chemical oceanography, and her research is mainly focused on trace metal biogeochemistry. She has obtained several projects funded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) focused on paleoceanography interpretations in recent sediments under the oxygen minimum zone, using trace metals, radioisotopes, and stable isotopes. Her work has been developed in the SE Pacific margin from deep zones toward coastal areas and has been involved in studies in Fjords and Antarctica in the Chilean Austral zone. Recently, is participating in studies on the Rapa Nui Island as a collaboration with the Center for Ecology and Sustainable Management of Oceanic Islands (ESMOI).
