Otis Brunner is working toward his PhD at the Okinawa institute of Science and Technology, Japan. He intends to combine genetic analyses, ecological observations and geophysical models in order to predict and explain the distribution of marine species. He hopes this work can inform future conservation in the region.

He completed his undergraduate studies and subsequent research assistantship at Plymouth University in the UK. During this time, he focussed his research on fundamental deep-sea ecology and implemented species distribution models in order to predict as well as explain ecological patterns found at the furthest reaches of the ocean floor.
