Nicole Krause has a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Durham University, in the United Kingdom. She also has a master’s degree in molecular microbiology, immunobiology and microbial ecology from the University of Vienna, in Austria. Currently, she is a PhD student at the University of Vienna working on environmental cell biology and symbiosis. Nicole is joining this cruise hoping to learn new skills as a scientist. She will be working on the interaction between viruses and bacteria in the deep-sea hydrothermal vents.
