Nick joined the Marine Trace Element Laboratory (MTEL) at the University of Southern California after finishing his Ph.D in Chemical Oceanography at MIT and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. As part of his postdoctoral research, Nick has collected hundreds of samples to better understand the marine iron cycle. Carried on the winds over thousands of miles, the iron in Asian dust powers phytoplankton growth across the North Pacific. But is there enough iron to go around, or are some phytoplankton iron deficient? Onboard the R/V Falkor, Nick will conduct a series incubations to find out!
