Moritz Lang is a doctoral researcher at the Institute of Natural Hazards and Georisks at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. His research focuses on the investigation of the active magmatic systems beneath the eastern Saronic Gulf, Greece, using drone-based remote sensing. He is currently reconstructing the activity of Methana Volcano in the past through eruption volume estimations, lava flow morphology analysis and paleoseismicity. The applied methods include 3D-photogrammetry and LiDAR remote sensing.

Moritz received both his B.Sc. in Geology and his M.Sc. in Earth Science , specialization Geology, from the University of Greifswald, Germany. During this time, he investigated the glaciotectonic deformation of Jasmund peninsula, Germany, and sedimentary processes at the continental slopes of Cyprus during the Miocene. He is participating in the GoSouth expedition to the South Sandwich Islands, his first research cruise, through a collaboration between RWTH Aachen University and GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel.
