Dr. Matthew Iacchei is a post-doctoral research associate in Dr. Erica Goetze’s laboratory, in the Oceanography Department at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Matt is a marine molecular ecologist who is broadly interested in how both natural and human-induced changes in ecosystems impact the abundance, distribution, and diversity of species. Matt completed his B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Cornell University, and his doctorate in Zoology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
On the R/V Falkor, Matt will be testing out a variety of specimen preservation techniques in order to determine the best method to survey the genomic diversity of whole plankton communities. Matt is especially excited to learn about all of the cool organisms that make up the plankton in the Hawaiian pelagos, since most of his research to date has focused on coral reef and rocky reef invertebrates.
