Dr. Mario Rebolledo is an oceanologist with a PhD in geophysics, affiliated to the Centro de Investigación Científica de Yucatán, A.C., Mérida, Yucatán, México.  He has been actively involved with research related to the Chicxulub impact crater since 1999.  His research focus is primarily on the magnetostratigraphy of the K/Pg boundary within the impact crater. More recently, his research emphasis has been on identifying how the structural development of the crater has influenced the hydrogeology of the coastal aquifer in northern Yucatán.  Mario’s other ongoing research efforts are related to establishing how the unique hydrogeological characteristics of the coastal aquifer of Yucatan will determine the water availability in the region under different future climate change scenarios.  On this cruise, Mario is helping to identify possible outcrops of the K/T boundary along the Campeche Escarpment, combining detailed bathymetry and geophysical data. Link to personal web page.
