Marguerite (Maggie) Langwig is a PhD candidate in the Freshwater and Marine Sciences program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the lab of Dr. Karthik Anantharaman. She received her B.S. in Biopsychology from Wagner College in 2016 and M.S. in Marine Science from the University of Texas at Austin Marine Science Institute in 2019. In her PhD, Maggie is using metagenomics to explore the diversity, metabolism, and ecology of hydrothermal vent microbes and viruses. On the R/V Falkor(Too) cruise, Maggie will be collecting microbial and viral samples from hydrothermal plumes to understand what microbes and viruses live in these vents and how they obtain energy.
