
Leonel Pacheco is a postdoctoral fellow at the Laboratorio de Ecosistemas Marinos (LEMar) of the Museo de Ciencias Naturales y Museo under the guidance of his advisors Dr. Guido Pastorino and Dr. Valeria Teso. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of La Plata, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a focus on Zoology and Doctorate in Natural Sciences.
His research focuses on the taxonomy and biogeography of bivalves, primarily deep-sea species, though numerous techniques including Morphometric geometrics and Microcomputed Tomography.
He is a member of the Academic Executive Committee of the Asociación Argentina de Malacología (ASAM). He has received awards from several international institutions, including the PADI Foundation, the Deep-Sea Biology Society, and most recently, the Malacological Society of London.
After 7 years of studying deep-sea fauna with his laboratory partners, this will be Leonel’s first opportunity to witness in person the wonders of Argentine deep-sea biodiversity.
