Jorge Cardich Salazar is a biologist with a PhD in Geosciences from Federal Fluminense University in Brazil. He is a tenured professor at Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University (UPCH) and in charge of the marine biology laboratory. 

Jorge specializes in benthic foraminifera and paleo-oceanography in oxygen-deficient settings, such as the Peruvian Sea. His research interests are marine benthic ecology in coastal areas and the assessment of their ecological quality through the use of bioindicators.

Jorge is a member of the UPCH Biogeociences Research group and co-founder of FORHUMS, an academic group for young foraminerologists from Peru and the region.
