John Jamieson is the Canada Research Chair in Marine Geology at Memorial University in Newfoundland. He graduated from the University of Alberta (B.Sc.)  in 2002 and the University of Maryland (MSc) in 2005 and completed his PhD at the University of Ottawa in 2013. He spent 3 years at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research in Kiel, Germany where he developed a program of research on seafloor massive sulfide deposits.  At Memorial he is building a team developing marine mapping technologies, while continuing his research on metal mass fluxes to the oceans at seafloor hydrothermal vents through stable and radiogenic isotope systems. He has participated on 20 research cruises and is leading new research programs in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic Oceans.  John is the Chair of the Canadian Consortium for Ocean Drilling, overseeing the participation of Canadian scientists in the International Ocean Discovery (Drilling) Program.
