Jin Wei Lim is a PhD student under the Leverhulme Trust Doctoral Scholarship, based at the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute at the University of Southampton, UK. He has a strong interest in autonomous unmanned systems, and is currently developing instruments and methods to generate high-resolution, georeferenced maps of geometrically complex deep-seafloor energy infrastructures, such as those used in the oil and gas industry, using an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), and develop computational tool to extract numerical information from vast marine image datasets, including seafloor and borehole/core images.

His project is transdiciplinary and requires engagement across the fields of geology, geochemistry, and both fundamental and applied aspects of marine robots and sensing. His main supervisor is Dr Blair Thornton (Principal Investigator of this cruise).
