Dr Jesse van der Grient is a quantitative marine ecologist with experience in marine ecology, resource management and marine conservation, combining observational, experimental and modelling data with a link to policy. Her research focuses on how environmental and anthropogenic impacts directly and indirectly affect marine food webs and how this links to ecosystem services, with particular interest in climate change, fisheries and deep-sea mining. She is a co-lead on the Minerals Working Group of the Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI). She is currently a freelance consultant.

Jesse received her B.Sc in Biological sciences and PhD in Zoology from the University of Oxford. She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford and University of Hawai‘i, and as a project manager on climate resilience in the marine environment at the South Atlantic Environmental Research Institute in the Falkland Islands. This will be her first expedition to the Southern Ocean.
