Jennifer Paduan is a Research Specialist at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). She studies submarine volcanoes using autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to map the seafloor at high-resolution and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to make observations and collect samples, such as of lavas, sediments and hydrothermal fluids. Her recent projects have included the historical lava flows on the Juan de Fuca and Gorda Ridges, especially the 2011 and 2015 eruptions at Axial Seamount, and the geology of the Alarcon Rise and Pescadero Basin spreading centers.
Jenny has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College, Northampton, MA, and a Master of Science degree in Biological Oceanography from Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR. She is also an alum of the Sea Semester program of the Sea Education Association, Woods Hole, MA.
