Claudia Morales Garrido is a master’s student in Oceanography at the University of Valparaíso and the Catholic University of Valparaíso, supervised by Dr. Manuel Castillo. At the same time, she is part of the Laboratory of Physical and Satellite Oceanography (LOFISAT) at the University of Valparaíso as a data analysis technician for oceanographic and satellite data.

Her research focuses primarily on the Physical Oceanography of the Antarctic Peninsula, specifically on the physical-biological coupling in coastal waters of the South Shetland Islands (Fildes/Maxwell Bay) within the framework of climate change for these areas. Additionally, she has experience in oceanographic sampling in various fjords and channels of Northern Patagonia in Chile, implementing oceanographic instruments such as CTD, MiniDOT, and ADCP.

Claudia is originally from Santiago, Chile, and holds a degree in Marine Biology from the University of Valparaíso. She is motivated by the opportunity to research volcanic and glacial interactions on the SOI cruise in southern Chile.
