Casey is a mechanical engineer for Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and for this cruise will serve as expedition leader for the Nereus team. In this role Casey is responsible for the coordination of the Nereus team as well as interaction with the scientists to ensure Nereus is able to provide a useful platform from which they can conduct their experiments. For the second leg of the cruise, Casey will also serve as chief pilot for Nereus in ROV mode.

When not at sea with Nereus, Casey’s work focuses on mechanical design of ROV/AUV systems for the Deep Submergence Lab. Currently, Casey is leading the mechanical design effort for a new vehicle to provide an under ice presence in previous unreachable areas under glaciers and ice shelves as well as a family of new “light/hybrid” tethered ROV’s called Nereids which will be able to provide a variety of capabilities for underwater exploration.
