Bianca Keys is a final year Bachelor of Animal Ecology student at the University of the Sunshine Coast, with a special interest in geospatial analysis, marine science and ornithology. After completing her undergraduate program, she will be completing her Honour’s degree at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies investigating the presence of microplastics in shorebirds with a comparison to surrounding sediments and prey species. Being selected as a student participant for the CAPSTAN Voyage 3 in 2020 aboard RV Investigator has given the inspiration to be a part of future sea voyages. During the current voyage, Bianca will be a volunteer research scientist for BirdLife Australia conducting seabird and marine mammal observations as part of an ongoing project assessing the temporal and spatial variability in the abundance and distribution of these species.
