Joe Sharman – Head of Expeditions, The Nekton Foundation and the Ocean Census
Joe is a Marine Biologist and Expedition Leader with a background in behavioural ecology and bioacoustics, always with a focus on fieldwork and maritime operations. Joe has coordinated and led marine science expeditions to some of the most remote locations in the world throughout Africa, Asia, South Pacific, Americas and the polar regions. Most recently he has spent 5 years managing field deployments of autonomous acoustic monitoring systems throughout eastern and arctic Canada, characterising soundscapes and assessing populations of species at risk such as North Atlantic Right Whales, Narwhal, Southern Resident Killer Whales and Beluga Whales. Joe has a MSc from the University of St Andrews, Scotland and with the British Antarctic Survey studying movement metrics of Antarctic Fur Seals using telemetry.
