R/V FALKOR (too) – Hiring Job Description – Junior Officer

Start date of employment: 15 February 2025 (subject to port schedules)

Job Description:
● Reports to Chief Officer and Master
● Maintain navigational watches at sea, including operation of the dynamic positioning system (Kongsberg).
● In-port security watch on rotation with other Deck Officers.
● Depending on the rotation and capabilities may act in the capacity of a Navigation and Medical Officer or Safety Officer.
● General duties include, but are not limited to, passage planning, nautical charts and publication management, testing and maintenance of bridge navigational and radio equipment, safety and fire equipment management, document management, training, operating ship’s cranes and winches.
● Acting as the designated Medical Officer when there is no Ship’s Doctor onboard. Medical duties include maintenance of the Ship’s medical chest inventory, conducting medical examinations of patients, communicating with radio medical advice as needed, maintaining medical records for crew and special personnel and ensuring sufficient COVID testing and PPE supplies.
● Other tasks, as directed by the Chief Officer or Master .

General Requirements for all crew:
● Valid STCW95 Basic Safety Training
● Valid Seafarers Medical Fitness Certificate (ENG1 or equivalent recognised by Cayman Islands)
● Seafarer Discharge Book
● Passport
● Proficiency in Designated Security Duties
● Good communication skills, including English language speaking and comprehension
● Negative drug test result on first day of employment
● Clean background check verified prior to employment
● Acceptance of the Company’s Data Protection Policy will be required

Requirements for this position:
● STCW II/1 Officer of the Watch certificate (or higher)
● Fluent knowledge of the English language, written and spoken
● STCW95 VI/4 (2) – Medical care on board ship
● Relevant operational certificates and courses

Desirable additional skills/qualifications:
● Small boat experience/license
● STCW95 VI/2 – Fast Rescue Boat
● STCW95 VI/5 – Ship’s Security Officer
● Dynamic Positioning experience / license, preferably with Kongsberg equipment
● Previous experience on either research vessels or other offshore vessels
