Davide Oppo is an Associate Professor and the Pioneer Production Endowed Professor of Geology at the School of Geosciences, University of Louisiana at Lafayette (USA), where he leads the Sedimentary Basins Research Group. Previously, he served as a Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen (UK) and the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania).

Davide is a broadly trained marine geoscientist working at the intersection of sedimentology, biogeochemistry, and geophysics. His research centers on the multidisciplinary study of fluid flow in sedimentary basins, with a particular emphasis on methane seepage and sedimentary processes along continental margins. His work aims to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the processes governing the discharge and fate of deep-sourced fluids, a crucial aspect in assessing their regional and global impacts on natural ecosystems.

Davide received his B.Sc. from the University of Sassari and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Bologna, both in Italy. He has also been a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bologna. Davide has participated in several research cruises and is currently the Principal Investigator in a project investigating methane seepage and gas hydrate formation using autonomous underwater vehicles, sediment coring, and human-occupied vehicle Alvin.
