Tanja Stratmann is postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Ocean Systems at NIOZ – Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (Netherlands). She has a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Bremen in Germany, a M.Sc. in Biology from Aarhus University in Denmark, a M.Sc. in Statistical Data Analysis from Ghent University in Belgium, and a PhD in Marine Science from Ghent University.
She is a deep-sea benthic ecologist and biogeochemist. Her research focuses on anthropogenic impacts of benthic ecosystems, such as mine tailing disposal in Norwegian fjords or deep-sea bed mining. Furthermore, she is interested in the role of larger benthic invertebrates (e.g., sponges, holothurians, sea stars, brittle stars, sea urchins, mussels) in carbon and nitrogen cycling. For her research, she combines field observations, in-situ and ex-situ (manipulative) experiments with carbon-based food-web modeling and interaction web models.
