Manuel “Oscar” Corpus Almacen is a graduate student from CalState Los Angeles pursuing his master’s in biology. Born in Manila Philippines, he immigrated with his family to the United States in 2006. He graduated from CalState in 2023 with his bachelor’s degree in microbiology. He joined the lab of Dr. Gustavo Ramírez during the summer of 2022, learning about the field of Bioinformatics and microbial ecology. On this expedition, he will assist Dr. Ramírez in collection of microbial traps from the previous expedition, investigating the macro and microecology of seafloor mounts. This will be his first research expedition in his career in research science.
