I am a final-year PhD student at the University of Bristol, UK, where I study the chemistry of deep-sea coral skeletons. In Bristol, our research aims to understand how these corals build their skeletons, as well as how resilient they and the biological communities they support are to future changes in our oceans. We also use these coral skeletons to reconstruct past changes in ocean conditions, including temperature, pH and circulation, and link these to past changes in Earth’s climate. Understanding the coevolution of climate and oceans throughout Earth’s history can help us predict how the ocean will change in the future, under the influence of human-caused climate change.
Before joining the University of Bristol, I completed an integrated master’s degree in Earth Science at the University of Cambridge, and have previously participated in an expedition to the Galapagos platform.
