Ingrid Kolar has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Vienna. Because she has been working as a technical assistant during her studies and still does, she has over 30 years of experience in the lab. Half of the time she worked for Monika Bright and went twice on cruises to the EPR site this cruise is going to visit. She was five times invited by the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research to join cruises with the RV Polarstern to Arctic for diversity studies in the deep sea. Ingrid initiated and organized her first scientific outreach “Wollen Sie Meer?” in 1998 on the occasion of the International Year of the Ocean declared by UNO. Since then she has participated in several educational outreach activities like The Science Week, The Long Night of Science, European Researcher Night and wrote a two hour program with experiments and games to explain Aquatic Ecology and Ecotoxicology for the Kid`s University. Ingrid is currently working at University of Applied Sciences in the Department of Environmental Management and Ecotoxicology, but got a leave to join this cruise.
