Dave Casagrande is a Marine Development Engineer at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography, and is on R/V Falkor supporting the RAD2 Sampler. He is also responsible for a number of other URI vehicles, including the Wire Flyer towed profiler, a Lagrangian float and camera platform, an 11 km autonomous profiler (lander), and a growing fleet of autonomous kayaks and other surface vehicles. Before starting full-time at URI in 2017, Dave worked primarily as an independent contractor in ocean engineering and marine robotics, including two years with the Okeanos Explorer as an ROV pilot. Research interests include underwater and surface vehicle navigation, bathymetric mapping with sonars and optical sensors, and low power electronics. Non-research interests include carpentry, sailing fast, and anything outdoors. He received his BS and MS in Ocean Engineering with an emphasis on Marine Robotics from the University of Rhode Island in 2010 and 2013.
