Seb is a volcanologist and senior lecturer in Earth Sciences at the University of Birmingham, UK, with broad research interests in physical volcanic processes. He has investigated volcanic edifice stability, landslide processes and associated hazards in several locations. This includes marine geophysical and coring projects offshore Montserrat, and an ongoing project investigating the lateral collapse and landslide-generated tsunami at Anak Krakatau, Indonesia, in 2018. His DPhil research at the University of Oxford investigated explosive eruption processes and long-term records of volcanism in southern Chile. A postdoc position at the University of Southampton then led to an interest in marine records of volcanic activity, and landslide processes in particular. He has worked on Ritter Island since 2016, participating in a previous geophysical research cruise to the area.
