Izzy is a PhD student in the Girguis Lab at Harvard University. She received both her B.A. in Biology and her M.S. in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology from New York University. Her research focuses on the creative ways that microbes mediate the chemistry of their environment in order to interfere with surrounding oxygen levels. She is also interested in how this may be implicated in geochemical cycles on Earth and elsewhere in our solar system.  On the Hunting Bubbles cruise, Izzy will be working with water and sediment samples to investigate the microbial communities living in and around Hydrate Ridge. This is Izzy’s first research cruise and she is thrilled to take part in this exciting science aboard the Falkor.
