Thoi NGUYEN completed his biology bachelor degree in 2005 and ecology Master’s degree in 2008 from the University of Natural Science, Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. Following his degrees, Thoi began work in March 2009 at the Department of Marine Plankton, Institute of Oceanography (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology).
Thoi works in ecology of marine phytoplankton in microbial loop with particular emphasis on harmful algal blooms (HABs) in Vietnamese waters. Besides phytoplankton taxomomic tasks, he also works with other oceanographic factors like temperature, salinity, photosynthecally active radiation, phytoplankton pigments, as well as picoplankton and bacteriplankton. Thoi uses CTD and a flow cytometer for his work. Since 2017 he has been included in several international, national, and local projects for investigating and monitoring biodiversity with major works in processing data and analyzing community structure.
