Zaheer Hosein is a highly trained field biologist with a keen knowledge of marine biology and fisheries. Solid background in Zoology, Biology, Environmental Management, Field Methods in Biology, with a strong emphasis in marine and freshwater sampling methods and the identification of aquatic organisms. Experienced in the identification of marine finfish and benthic organisms, the use of taxonomic keys, and microscopy. Great experience in training of personnel in field and laboratory methods. Knowledgeable in the use and applications of GIS software. His research interests include analyzing the Value Chain of the Seabob Shrimp Fishery in Guyana. The By-catch Dynamics of the Artisanal Trawl Fishery of Trinidad, The Effects of Seasonality on Species Composition in Trawl Fisheries, Socio-Economic Issues in Fisheries, Fisheries Value Chain Analysis, and The effects of Climate Change on Fisheries. His current position as the Curator of the UWI Zoology Museum (UWIZM) makes him ideally suited for aquatic exploration, discovery, and specimen preservation. Zaheer is a member of the National Sea-Turtle Taskforce and a member of the Sea-Turtle Bycatch Working Group. Hosein is also an avid seaman and sportsman, with fishing, diving, football, and cricket among his usual recreational activities.
