Zach is a graduate student in the MIT-WHOI Joint Program pursuing a PhD in Applied Ocean Science and Engineering. He earned a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from MIT in 2018. His current research with the Model-based Embedded and Robotic Systems (MERS) group at MIT and the Deep Submergence Laboratory at WHOI focuses on risk-aware continuous time planning for autonomous underwater vehicles. The goal of this research is to enable long endurance under-ice sampling missions in the Arctic. Outside of research, Zach enjoys traveling, skiing, and playing basketball.
