Silvia Inés Romero is head of the Ocean Dynamics Laboratory at the Oceanography Department of the Servicio de Hidrografía Naval (SHN), Argentina. She is also a professor at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (FCEN-UBA) and the Universidad de la Defensa Nacional (FadARA-UNDEF), where she contributes to academic training and research in marine sciences.
Her work explores the environmental processes that drive ocean variability, with a focus on marine fronts and the dynamics of the continental shelf and slope. She combines satellite remote sensing with in situ observations to investigate multi-scale interactions shaping marine ecosystems.
Over the years, she has taken part in numerous national and international oceanographic projects and campaigns, contributing both as a researcher and a mentor. She currently serves on academic committees and maintains an active role in interdisciplinary scientific collaboration and outreach.
She is the Chief Principal Investigator of the Tale of Two Canyons / Ecos de Dos Cañones expedition (FKT220925), which investigates the links between seafloor morphology, current systems, and ecosystem processes along the Argentine continental margin.
She holds a Ph.D. in Oceanography (2008, University of Buenos Aires) and a B.Sc. in Physical Oceanography (1990, Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires, Argentina).
