Sebastián E. Cornejo Guzmán is a Chilean geophysicist and incoming Ph.D. candidate in Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and Centro de Investigación del Mar y la Atmósfera (CIMA-UBA-CONICET). His research examines how meso- and submesoscale circulation shapes chlorophyll-a variability across the Southwest Atlantic, with a focus on validating high-resolution SWOT altimetry against drifters, moorings, and regional models.

Prior to relocating to Argentina, he served as a scientific assistant at the University of Concepción, developing coupled biophysical models for fisheries, conducting hydrodynamic–biogeochemical simulations of central–southern Chilean waters, and co-supervising undergraduate theses. He also provided geo-data science and legal-technical consulting for WWF-US’s Marine Spatial Planning project in Patagonia and has participated in Patagonian fjord and southeastern Pacific research cruises, co-authoring peer-reviewed studies on connectivity, plankton ecology and climate variability.

He enjoys science communication, delivering invited talks and workshops on ocean–climate topics in schools, community centres and cultural venues across Chile and Argentina. He experiments with stand-up comedy to engage non-specialist audiences, using humor to share ocean and climate science.

His work sits at the nexus of physical oceanography and marine ecosystem dynamics, with a special interest in cross-shelf exchanges and island connectivity.
