Sandra Antonio is a biologist and deep-sea ecologist specializing in megafauna communities naturally exposed to hydrocarbons in the ocean. Her professional experience includes over 100 days of offshore navigation aboard RV Justo Sierra, contributing to baseline studies for the Gulf of Mexico Research Consortium and Petróleos Mexicanos, as well as supporting multidisciplinary research on deep-sea benthic communities conducted by the Institute of Marine Sciences and Limnology, UNAM. With a strong passion for mentoring, she is excited to assist in the academic preparation of young biologists and currently serves as a Junior Professor at the Sciences Faculty, UNAM. She hopes her deep love for the ocean will inspire those around her—colleagues, students, and friends alike—to develop a greater awareness and appreciation for its importance, regardless of their background or field of interest.
