Title and Institution: Ph.D. student, Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, University of California Santa Cruz, USA

Ryu is a PhD student at the University of California, Santa Cruz in the USA. He recently completed his undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley, where his research focused on modeling the internal structure of the icy moons of Jupiter and Saturn, which are thought to harbor subsurface liquid water oceans. As he starts his PhD, Ryu is interested in working at the intersection of oceanography and planetary science, studying and modeling hydrothermal circulation on Earth to help make predictions about extraterrestrial oceans, for example in Jupiter’s moon Europa.
