Lieutenant Commander Prosper Mawusi Akortsu is an executive officer in the Ghana Navy and a professional surveyor with the Ghana Institution of Surveyors. He is a Category B hydrography specialist with a strong foundation in geomatic engineering and maritime operations. He supports safe navigation, maritime security, and national development within Ghana’s maritime domain through hydrographic surveying and marine geospatial data acquisition. He currently serves as the officer-in-charge of the Ghana Navy Hydrographic Unit. His work contributes directly to enhancing coastal and offshore situational awareness in Ghana’s waters.

Lt Cdr Akortsu has participated in a range of operational and technical assignments, with a focus on hydrographic survey operations and the application of modern marine sensing technologies. His professional interests include multibeam echosounder systems, sonar data processing, and marine geospatial analysis.

He has a strong interest in maritime security, particularly in countering transnational organized crime, including illicit fuel smuggling in the Gulf of Guinea. He continues to pursue advanced professional development in hydrography and cybersecurity, and is committed to regional cooperation and capacity building in hydrographic science.
