Noelia is an Assistant Professor of Oceanography and Marine Ecology works since 2011 at the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Sciences (IECA), Faculty of Sciences, University of the Republic, Uruguay. She lectures in grade (Bachelor in Biological Sciences) and in the postgraduate Program of Geosciences (PEDECIBA-Geociencias), also she is part of Uruguayan National System of Researchers (SNI–ANII) since 2019. She currently serves on the SCAR Uruguay committee as a representative for geosciences area.
Her research focuses on benthic ecology, with a specialization in the taxonomy and ecology of free-living marine estuarine nematodes. She studies meiofaunal communities in several coastal and oceanic environments including beaches, coastal lagoons, shallow subtidal and shelves from Uruguay, as well as the Antarctic region. At present her interest also include the deep-sea benthic meiofaunal biodiversity. Noelia has published several research peer-reviewed articles in international journals (more than 20) and book chapters.
Noelia participated in her first research cruise aboard the Peruvian Navy vessel BAP Carrasco as part of a joint Uruguayan–Peruvian Antarctic expedition. She is enthusiastic about contributing to the exploration of deep-sea benthic fauna in Uruguayan waters.
Noelia is B.Sc. in Biology, with postgraduate formation in Marine Ecology (Master and PhD degrees) from the Biological Sciences Postgraduate Program (PEDECIBA).
