Dr. Martín Brogger is a Researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) at the Instituto de Biología de Organismos Marinos (IBIOMAR) in Puerto Madryn, Argentina. His research focuses on the taxonomy, reproductive biology, and biodiversity of echinoderms, particularly deep-sea species from the Southwestern Atlantic. He is also a co-founder of the Ibero-American Echinoderm Network, promoting collaboration across Latin America.
Martín integrates new technologies into marine biodiversity studies, including the use of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), drop cameras, towed cameras, and drones. He has operated ROVs and deployed deep-sea imaging systems aboard Greenpeace vessels (RV Esperanza and RV Arctic Sunrise) during explorations of the Blue Hole area, and has led drone-based biodiversity surveys in sensitive coastal environments. He participated in the three previous Talud Continental campaigns aboard the RV Puerto Deseado (CONICET), contributing as a researcher and supporting scientific logistics and planning.
Martín holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and completed postdoctoral research at CONICET. He is an active member of international marine biodiversity initiatives, including the IUCN SSC, and a contributor to a recent global study on deep-sea ecosystems. This will be his fourth Talud Continental expedition, continuing to explore and document Argentina’s deep-sea biodiversity.
